Common Conditions
-
Low Back Pain
Low back pain is one of the most common reasons people seek chiropractic care. Whether caused by poor posture, muscle strain, or disc issues, we address the root cause through spinal adjustments, core stabilization, and mobility exercises to relieve pressure and restore alignment. The combination of chiropractic adjustments and acupuncture have been excellent tools in relieving low back pain.
-
Neck Pain
Neck pain often results from misalignments, muscle tension, or tech neck. Our doctors use combinations of gentle chiropractic adjustments, postural correction, and therapeutic stretches to relieve stiffness and improve range of motion. For those uncomfortable with having their neck adjusted, a combination of soft tissue therapy and acupuncture can provide excellent results as well. We also utilize hand held instrument adjustments where a gentle force is applied directly on the spinal joints without any popping or twisting required.
-
Headaches
Tension headaches and migraines often stem from neck dysfunction and muscular imbalances. Chiropractic adjustments help alleviate headache frequency and intensity by restoring proper spinal alignment and reducing nerve irritation. Addressing associated trigger points is also essential to prevent recurrence. Acupuncture has been shown to be highly effective in relieving muscle knots while also dramatically reducing headache frequency. Soft tissue therapy can assist in breaking up adhesions in the soft tissues that often accompany headaches.
-
Sciatica
Sciatica refers to radiating leg pain caused by irritation of the sciatic nerve that travels from the gluteal region down the back of the leg all the way to the foot. The cause is often the result of disc herniation or spinal misalignment. Our doctors can help relieve pressure on the nerve through decompression techniques including flexion/distraction, targeted chiropractic adjustments, and corrective movement therapies. Initial treatment with acupuncture has been shown to be extremely effective in controlling the initial pain associated with sciatica, allowing for treatment to progress much quicker.
-
Disc Buldge/Herniation
Herniated or bulging discs can compress nerves and cause severe pain. Our non-invasive care plan focuses on reducing inflammation, improving spinal mechanics, and creating space for healing using gentle chiropractic adjustments and rehabilitative exercises. Our specialized flexion/distraction table is specifically designed to treat these conditions using very low force decompression rather than traditional chiropractic adjustments to provide effective relief from pinched nerves. Acupuncture directly targeting the sciatic nerve can reduce pain quickly as healing from a disc injury can take some time to resolve.
-
Spinal Stenosis
This condition involves narrowing of the spinal canal, often leading to nerve compression. Our approach includes posture correction, spinal decompression, and strengthening of supportive muscles to enhance function and reduce symptoms. Flexion/distraction is a gentle and extremely effective treatment for spinal stenosis, gently opening the spinal joints to relieve the pressure on the compressed nerves as many patients do not optimally tolerate traditional adjustments. Specific exercises to open the compressed spinal nerves can help maintain relief for longer periods.
-
Sports Injuries
From sprains and strains to overuse injuries, we help athletes recover quickly and safely. Our sports chiropractic care includes active release techniques, joint mobilization, and performance rehab to optimize healing and prevent re-injury. Acupuncture can help reduce pain and inflammation while stimulating healing during the initial acute phase (approximately six weeks). For chronic issues that have not resolved in that period, Radial Pulse Wave therapy is an excellent tool to both reduce pain and remodel damaged tissue. While speeding recovery is always the initial focus, our main goal is to uncover any underlying structural and functional imbalances that may have led to the injury. While recovery is primary, prevention is the ultimate objective. The greatest ability in all of sports is avail-ability!
-
Shoulder Pain
Whether from impingement, poor posture, or injury, shoulder pain can limit daily function. We assess the shoulder complex and restore proper mechanics with joint mobilization, soft tissue therapy, and corrective exercises. Chiropractic adjustments can restore normal biomechanics and reduce nerve irritation, helping to correct underlying dysfunction that led to the pain. Acupuncture can benefit acute injuries (less than six weeks) while Radial Pulse Wave therapy is extremely effective for chronic pain and reduced mobility. With our extensive experience in the field of baseball, the shoulder is one of our specialties.
-
Frozen Shoulder
Adhesive capsulitis causes severe stiffness and pain in the shoulder. Our multi-modal approach uses manual therapy, mobility drills, and gentle stretching to restore shoulder movement and reduce inflammation. Our Radial Pulse Wave along with acupuncture for pain relief can be an effective alternative to surgery.
-
Rotator Cuff Strain
This injury involves small tears or overuse of the rotator cuff muscles. We aid recovery with targeted rehab, functional strengthening, and manual therapy to stabilize the shoulder and restore full range of motion. Evaluation of the movement of the scapula (shoulder blade) is essential when it comes to preventing relapse that can eventually lead to complete tearing and surgical repair. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure when it comes to shoulder problems, especially rotator cuff issues.
-
Thoracic Outlet Syndrome
TOS involves compression of nerves or blood vessels between the neck and shoulder. We improve biomechanics through chiropractic adjustments, myofascial release, and postural correction to relieve pressure and restore function. Acupuncture treatment can reduce both inflammation and nerve irritation that are commonly found in TOS.
-
Tennis & Golfer's Elbow
These overuse conditions affect the tendons of the forearm. Our treatment focuses on reducing inflammation, restoring joint mechanics, and rebalancing the surrounding muscles for lasting relief. For acute flare-ups (less than six weeks), acupuncture has been tremendously effective for these tendon related conditions. If symptoms have lasted longer than six weeks, scar tissues and adhesions are commonly the cause of continued pain and dysfunction. Radial Pulse Wave therapy shines in these cases, focusing directly on those damaged tissues to remodel them, restoring normal function while simultaneously reducing pain.
-
Tempomandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMJ)
TMJ disorders can cause jaw pain, headaches, and clicking sounds. We use soft tissue techniques to break up related trigger points that not only cause pain, but may also lead to eventual degeneration of the joint. Functional jaw mobilization exercises along with postural correction to improve joint function and alleviate tension can provide tremendous relief. Many TMJ problems stem from spinal dysfunction in the neck. Chiropractic adjustments in combination with acupuncture can address these issues conservatively and effectively.
-
IT Band Syndrome
Common in runners, IT band syndrome causes lateral knee pain due to friction as a result of poor biomechanics. We relieve tension with deep tissue techniques, correct gait mechanics, and support healing with customized rehabilitation. Chiropractors are experts when it comes to evaluating the movement of the body. Rather than only focusing on the painful area, we evaluate the whole kinetic chain including the foot, ankle, knee, and hip. Unless you address the cause, symptoms will inevitably return. Custom orthotics can help stabilize the foot and restore normal biomechanics of the lower leg.
-
Hip Pain
Hip discomfort can stem from joint dysfunction in the hip itself, muscle imbalance, or referred pain from the spine. Once we find the cause, we target the root cause with precise adjustments, stretching, and strengthening strategies. We will start at the feet and work our way up each joint (ankle, knee, hip) to uncover areas that are creating stresses above. We must start looking upstream at the source rather than merely treating downstream symptoms. Evaluating foot function is very important when evaluating hip pain as injuries often arise from poor foot biomechanics. Many patients find custom orthotics to be invaluable when it comes to finally resolving their pain and returning to unrestricted activity.
-
Whiplash
Whiplash injuries from auto accidents often result in neck stiffness, headaches, and soft tissue damage. Our chiropractic treatments restore spinal alignment, reduces inflammation, and accelerates tissue healing. Unfortunately, many seemingly minor whiplash injuries go untreated only to show up months or even years later creating pain and restriction. Research shows that the severity of neck injuries from auto accidents is not directly correlated to the damage of you your car. In other words, minor car damage can still result in major soft tissue damage. Unresolved, these injuries commonly result in chronic pain and eventual arthritis formation in the future. If you have been in an accident, even a minor one, come in for an evaluation. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
-
Knee Pain
We treat knee pain resulting from ligament injuries, arthritis, or biomechanical dysfunction by improving joint mobility, strengthening surrounding muscles, and addressing related alignment issues. Rather than just looking at you knee, we will evaluate the joints above and below—your foot/ankle and your hip. Many knee problems are the result of a compensation in those joints as opposed to the knee itself. Evaluating your foot biomechanics can uncover underlying issues that may benefit from custom orthotics.
-
Shin Splints
Shin splints cause pain along the front of the lower leg, often from overuse or improper movement patterns. We correct imbalances with functional assessments, soft tissue therapy, and activity modification. Adjusting the pelvis and sacroiliac joints (SI joints) can help balance the hips and restore normal gate. For chronic pain (greater than six weeks) in this region, Radial Pulse Wave therapy can reduce pain while normalizing the function of the muscles of the lower leg. Custom orthotics benefit many patients dealing with shin splints by correcting underlying foot imbalances.
-
Achilles Tendonitis
This condition causes pain in the lower leg and heel due to tendon overuse. We reduce strain on the Achilles through manual therapy, eccentric strengthening, and gait retraining. Tight calf muscles due to trigger points can be cause excessive tension on the Achilles. Soft tissue therapy and functional rehab can restore normal tone to these muscles which reduces tension on the tendon. Addressing pelvic alignment with chiropractic adjustments can also minimize the stress on the Achilles tendon. Acute issues (less than six weeks) respond well to acupuncture and rehab exercise in combination with soft tissue therapy. For conditions over six weeks, Radial Pulse Wave therapy has been a game changer, effectively reducing pain while remodeling the damaged tendon.
-
Plantar Fasciitis
Heel pain from plantar fascia irritation is common among active individuals as well as pregnant moms. Our treatment includes soft tissue release, foot mechanics correction, and targeted strengthening of the arch support muscles. Custom orthotics benefit many patients dealing with plantar fasciitis by supporting the foot and taking the stress off of the injured tissues. This allows the injury to heal faster but most importantly reduce the likelihood for recurrence. If you have noticed foot and heel pain for longer than six weeks, Radial Pulse Wave therapy can be of great benefit by both reducing pain while healing the damaged tissues.
-
Muscle Strains
Strains can occur anywhere in the body due to overexertion or improper movement. Our recovery protocols combine manual therapy, movement retraining, and progressive rehabilitation for a full return to activity. Evaluating the spine and joints for dysfunction can uncover underlying imbalances that predispose athletes to muscular injuries. While our initial focus is to treat the strain to reduce pain, speed healing, and restore function, our primary goal is to address the weak links in the kinetic chain that may have predisposed the muscle to become overloaded in the first place. We can accomplish this through specific chiropractic adjustments, soft tissue therapy, and functional rehab exercises. Many patients also benefit from acupuncture treatments in conjunction to these modalities to reduce pain and inflammation while bringing healing blood to the region to speed up healing.
-
Heal Spurs
Often associated with plantar fasciitis, heel spurs are calcium deposits causing chronic heel pain. We address the underlying causes with custom foot support, chiropractic adjustments, and rehabilitative care. Radial Pulse Wave therapy has been shown to effectively treat heel spurs, focusing on reducing the damaged tissues that led to the problem in the first place.
-
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
This condition stems from median nerve compression in the wrist, resulting in pain and numbness in the hand. Our care approach addresses nerve irritation at multiple levels—neck, shoulder, and wrist—using adjustments, soft tissue therapy, and ergonomic guidance. Acupuncture has a long standing success rate when it comes to conservatively resolving carpal tunnel syndrome by reducing inflammation associated with compression.
