Performance and Wellness Care

Do you wait until your care breaks down to get it serviced or do you do regular maintenance? Changing your oil, replacing your worn out break pads, and purchasing new tires should be a done on a preventive basis. If not, you may end up paying  a steep price in both money and personal injury as a result of neglect. As the old saying goes, it’s easier to stay well than to get well.

This is why many patients choose regular checkups to stay in tune. Uncovering imbalances before they become symptomatic helps prevent flare ups which may force you to discontinue doing the things you love to do. Be it monthly adjustments to keep you going (Motion Is Lotion!), or an acupuncture tune up to reduce stress, improve sleep and balance your nervous system, we are happy to help you find what works best for you. While we encourage wellness care, that decision is always up to you. We will never pressure you—how much or how little you decide to use our services is always up to you.

A great example of preventative care for enhanced athletic performance can be illustrated by an encounter Dr. Perrine experienced with the Kansas City Royals after the 2014 World Series. As he was leaving the facility after his first day of Spring Training in 2015, the head athletic trainer stopped him to ask a question. Here is how Dr. Perrine explains the conversation:

“As I was leaving, our head athletic trainer approached me and asked if I knew my ring size. Upon telling him I did not, he instructed me to go upstairs to get my finger sized because I was to receive a World Series ring. Stunned, I thanked him, explaining how much of an honor it was. The next thing he said to me has stayed with me since that very day. He explained that my care during Spring Training helped players avoid injury, allowing the team to begin the season strong. He had always emphasized to both players and the medical staff the importance of both keeping players healthy as well as helping them reach their potential. To him, this was why he saw me as an essential member of his team.”

“I was introduced to Dr. Perrine when I was in Spring Training with the Kansas City Royals in 2005. I had a back surgery early in my professional career and had been seeing chiropractors ever since. I am cautious on who I see, though, and will not let just anybody adjust my body. I trusted Dr. Perrine and felt comfortable with him from day one. I now live in Arizona, and I will make the one hour drive to see him if I require his specialized care.

Stresses of daily life can add up, leading to eventual breakdown within the body. A combination of regular biomechanical assessments, chiropractic adjustments, specific exercises and acupuncture tune-ups can not only help prevent problems but also enhance performance in sports as well as activities of daily living.

What’s the Difference Between Performance Care and Injury Care?

Injury care deals with known conditions (sprains, strains, disc herniations…) with the goal of reducing pain and returning the tissues to pre-injury status. Performance care, on the other hand, focuses on helping an athlete perform the variety of skills necessary (strength, endurance, speed, balance, flexibility) to compete at the highest level. Performance care looks to identify unnoticed or hidden restrictions in the body, remove them, and restore full function.

Our doctors have extensive post-graduate training and experience in the realm of athletic performance so you can be confident that you will receive the world class care you desire, allowing you to reach your potential (and maybe beyond)!
