Chiropractic Adjustment

Chiropractors focus on the health and function of what is known as the neuromusculoskeletal system—they are experts on how the nerves, muscles, and joints work together. Rather than utilizing drugs or surgery, chiropractic provides a natural alternative that centers on restoring normal biomechanics while reducing muscle spasms, inflammation and irritation to the nerves. A notable government study in 1994 by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services found chiropractic spinal manipulation a safe alternative to traditional pain medication or surgical intervention.

The backbone of chiropractic (pun intended!) is the adjustment, also known as joint manipulation. This technique refers to the application of gentle pressure on the affected region to restore optimal motion. Motion is lotion to the joints! Loss of motion is a significant problem because it not only causes pain, but is a leading cause of joint degeneration—otherwise known as arthritis.

In addition to scientific study, the results of chiropractic speak for themselves. This once questioned healing art is now a mainstay in professional sports. The U.S. Olympic Medical staff now includes numerous chiropractors who work side by side with orthopedists, physical therapists, and athletic trainers to bring their unique skill set to the team. Every Major League Baseball team has a chiropractor as a member of their medical staff with our office having the honor to serve as the consulting chiropractors for the Kansas City Royals during Spring Training since 2005.

Worried about Getting Adjusted?

For those who have concerns regarding traditional chiropractic adjustments, we also utilize a special technique known as flexion-distraction. Rather than using our hands to directly make an adjustment, we use a specialized table that gently moves the spine through very controlled ranges to restore normal motion while simultaneously decompressing nerves. This technique is especially effective for patients suffering from sciatic pain or a bulging discs. No popping or cracking—just a gentle stretching of the joints is all the force that in necessary.

While chiropractic has proven it’s benefits for more than a century, not all chiropractors are the same. Let’s talk more baseball. All baseball players undergo similar training throughout their careers, learning the basic fundamentals along the way. However, it is only the best of the best that make it to the Major Leagues. What sets them apart? Their level of skill. Our doctors focus on using gentle, precise adjustments to provide the most effective treatment with minimal force. Like hitting a baseball, it’s not about swinging hard, but contacting the ball at the right time with just the right amount of force.
